COMMUNITY NIGHTS

ABOUT THE EVENTS

In recognition of the United Nations theme this year for International Yoga Day we offer our growing community access to a series of  events at Yoga House this summer that center around the topic of Climate Action. Our first evening on the 21st June presents a truly fascinating if concerning talk about the status of our world and the direction in which we are heading. Through the events our aim is to raise awareness around our lifestyle in order to then be able to live in a way that is more mindful of our impact on our planet.  Each of the evenings will address a different topic that will be presented as a talk or movie, and that will also include a meditation, flow or discussion.

Topics & Dates

Friday 21st of June: the story of co2 and homo sapiens

In Celebration of International Yoga Day, and its theme Climate Action we start our community event with a 60 min screening of the "Story of CO2 and Homo Sapiens". A fascinating yet worrying insight into the state of our world and the rapid decline that our ecological systems are going through and their threat on the survival of the human race. We will conclude the evening with a 25 minute earth meditation with Zarine Dadachanji followed by an open discussion.

Friday 12th of July: difficult choices for a better tomorrow

The most important thing is that if we all work together diligently then the power of our collective contributions will make a larger difference over time. For us to be able to truly make an impact we will need to make some difficult choices at times, be it in our choice of vehicle, to our choice in the food we eat, to ordering items locally in bulk etc. There are a whole selection of ways in which we can live a more sustainable lifestyle even here in the Desert. Join Architect and Yoga House co-owner Ziyad Mahmoud for a short presentation and discussion on this topic that looks to put in place a plan for action in our daily lives so that each one of us can make the most impact possible in our contributions. This will be followed by a 45 minute flow with Kimberley that will allow us to set the right intentions.

Friday 23rd of August: Introduction to Jivamukti Yoga

Want to learn about the different facets that make up the Jivamukti Yoga method? Join Dina Ghandour for an engaging session on the five tenets that comprise Jivamukti, with an invigorating 60 minute taster class open to all levels. Perfect for anyone curious about yoga or wanting to deepen their understanding of the Jivamukti method. The workshop will include a physical yoga practice, breath work, chanting and meditation, we will take the time to break down elements of the practice and round off with a deep relaxation.

Friday 6th of September: No more plastic

There is only one ocean that covers this planet. The lifeblood of the planet, the ocean connects us to each other and makes life on our planet possible. Today, our ocean is in danger, choking on the plastic that flows from our homes and communities into rivers, onto beaches down to the very depths of the ocean. Plastic is killing us, devastating our ocean and slowly poisoning us internally. We have the power to change. Discover what you can do to save the planet from plastic in this presentation by Architect Nael Evans followed by a discussion and distribution of your basic kit for action.

Friday 20th of September: Your Body's Ability To Heal

The more you know about how your body works, the better able you are to make the choices necessary to enhance both the quantity and quality of your life. By living lives that rely on our bodies natural ability to heal itself we contribute in our own way to reducing modern days reliance on medications and therefore the pollution from these into our environment. We present an interesting documentary that looks at how an approach to healing centered around natural remedies can help strengthen our bodies and provide a stronger immune system in the long run.
