BECAUSE IT MATTERS: Enriching Environments: How to Nurture and Support Your Child’s Natural Developm
Parenthood is a role where there seem to be more questions raised than answers given. In a fast-paced world, it can be challenging to cover all the bases of raising a child: what parenting approach works best for children? What kind of media should a child be consuming? How can parents nurture their child’s curiosity?
Naturally, parents want to do everything they can to support their child.. and this means nurturing around them an Enriching Environment, one that supports the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of childhood.
How does an Enriching Environment nurture your child’s growth?
Inspired by the Montessori Method, Enriching Environments guides parents to create an environment that nurtures their children in a holistic way. Developed by Dr. Maria Montessori in the early 1900s, the eponymous method transformed views of early childhood at the time; and today is a well-known and immensely popular approach to early childhood and parenting across the world today.
By applying Montessori-inspired strategies, parents can:
✓ Instill a sense of capability and self-confidence in children
✓ Foster an environment where children feel engaged, nourished, and safe
✓ Engage children in free, unscheduled, child-led play
✓ Inspire healthy and respectful ways of communication and assertion
✓ Enable children to learn self-discipline and focus without compromising on playfulness and freedom
✓ Lead children to place more importance on contributing rather than consuming
How can you provide an Enriching Environment for your child?
The Montessori Method is an approach suitable for all parents looking to support their child's natural development and help them reach their full potential through a holistic environment. To this effect, Yoga House is delighted to present a community event where parents will be exposed to the key principles behind this method.
Unlocking The Secrets of Childhood: How to Support Your Child’s Natural Development, The Montessori Way is a unique parenting workshop that incorporates Montessori-inspired strategies. It is led by Charlotte, head of Enriching Environments, who champions the “accessibility” of the Montessori method at “the home environment for everyone.”
Charlotte hopes to create “a world that raises up all humans.” By building an Enriching Environment, Montessori parents can cause a chain reaction where children, in turn, nourish the community and the rest of the world.
What can you gain from this Enriching Environments Parent Enrichment Workshop?
Unlocking The Secrets of Childhood: How to Support Your Child’s Natural Development, The Montessori Way is a brief event that covers key points of Charlotte’s more comprehensive Enriching Environments Parent Enrichment Programme. It is ideal for all expectant or current parents who want a glimpse into creating an Enriching Environment for their child..
The workshop starts with parents unpacking their biggest fear. This will serve as an opportunity for introspection and a turning point for parents so they can gain a clearer aspiration and better grasp of their position. Charlotte will then take parents through an overview of the pillars of an Enriching Environment:
Movement. This will guide parents and caregivers on how they can arrange a safe home environment that promotes freedom of movement in children as they develop different motor skills, from crawling to running.
Language. Parents and caregivers will learn how to help their child's communication cues (from the earliest days), and how to use rich and expressive communication, such as songs, stories and poetry to
Independence. This shows parents and caregivers how to prepare their home in such a way that supports their child in becoming capable, contributing human beings.
Play. This will empower parents and caregivers to free their child's creativity by only offering unstructured, child-led play, as well as select the most valuable and sustainable toys for their child to explore.
Self-discipline. This will answer parents’ biggest questions on discipline. Here, parents will explore the development of the will and self-discipline of their child. Parents will also gain a deeper understanding of their role so they can guide children to understand freedom and structure.
