ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The Partner yoga workshop will incorporate partner yoga poses, this practice allows two people to relate to one another through assisted poses. Some of these poses will challenge students to use their body weight against each other. The poses that will be explored in this workshop include; of supported plank, twists, buddy dancers pose, buddy boat pose, partner twists and double downward dog. Working with a partner provides balance in a pose while establishing and maintaining proper body alignment. It also allows each yogi to experience the pose in a different way. Partner yoga helps opening oneself up as the yogis share the pose, movements and breath. Each must step outside him/herself to connect with the other and work together.
Partner yoga is a style of asana practice in which two people support each other in poses in a way that enhances the postures and builds trust and communication. Give yourself the chance to let someone receive your weight.
Benefits of Partner Yoga:
In learning to trust another person, you deepen your ability to trust yourself. Partner Yoga practices reveal the beauty of our interdependence. We see that when we take the risk to become vulnerable in the presence of another, we are empowered to go much deeper with much less effort.
Leverage and kinesthetic awareness all heighten the body’s ability to perform and make it possible to go more deeply into poses with less effort. We touch and are touched by others. We use the touch that we receive to increase our awareness of each other, and to open ourselves to greater depths in our body and our minds.
We tend to have a particular tendency in our relational patterns. On one end of the spectrum, we may be so overly sensitive and yielding to others that we lose touch with a healthy boundary of self. At the other end, we may be so guarded, emotionally and energetically, that we are unable to make an authentic connection with others. There is no giver or receiver in a yoga pose within Partner Yoga. Both partners are fully engaged in their own experience, each with their own clear role of support for the other person – creating that perfect sense of balance.
