Headstands
conquer your fear & Feel weightless
YOGA WORKSHOP
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The headstand or Sirsasana as it is called in Sanskrit, is known as the King of asanas because of its vast benefits for the body and the mind.
My personal journey is relevant to this Asana as I personally lost my headstand practice around 7 years ago. Overnight I went from standing on my head with no fear and solidity to someone who could not even lift up into headstand without major emotional turmoil. My realization was that the headstand process encompasses a powerful mind component as well as a physical one. I learned that the mind should not be overlooked but rather tackled from the perspective of compassion and understanding. I have slowly been building up my headstand over the years and want to share with you the knowledge that I gained along this journey.
This workshop will break the headstand process down for beginners and can work as a refresher for those who already have experience. We will warm up and strengthen the upper body, shoulders and core, and as you understand the practice you may be able to experience the balanced “weightlessness” and “effortlessness” of the posture. For some this will take some time and may be overridden by fears of a fall before being able to appreciate the steadiness of the pose. We will look at both of these feelings and analyze them individually in order to help ourselves in further development of the headstand. We will then learn to engage our shoulders, abdomen and legs in a safe and correct way and slowly the headstand fear will dissipate in replacement of ease and steadiness.
We will learn various types of headstand as some are easier than others for different people. We will use our “ best buddy” the wall on this journey so that we can eliminate our fear and focus on the headstand process itself. The workshop will provide a fun and safe environment to allow you to take away ideas and information so you can safely start to integrate headstand into your daily yoga practice.

About the instructor: Jatta Tjurin

Jatta's yoga path started in London 2001 and she felt the invigorating benefits of yoga on the body and mind. She got more deeply involved in the practice of Ashtanga in Dubai 10 years ago and was lucky to practice with many reverent teachers such as David Swenson, Richard Freeman, Petri Raisanen and John Scott. She has made two trips to Mysore to study at KPJAYI with Sharat Jois and will be applying to go practice with him.

She is a 500h+ certified ashtanga teacher from Tattvaa Yoga Shala in Rishikesh and Ashtanga Rocket from It's YogaSatellite. Jatta is a hands on teacher and likes to connect with her students on a physical and mental level. The understanding of the body and mind connection is prevalent in her classes and she cultivates the deeper side of yoga and at the same time keeps her classes fun, inspiring and energizing.
She has a passion for the philosophy side and keeps studying Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and Advaita Vedanta. She feels that the practice is only asana if not backed up by the yoga philosophy.
