FUNDAMENTALS OF IYENGAR

6-WEEK COURSE

What is This COURSE about?

 

This course is designed to provide beginners with a solid foundation.

 

Whilst doing this course, you will feel your body work in a way it may never have done before. Afterwards you will notice a feeling of calm. This is part of the positive effect yoga has on your mind. Keep practicing and you will begin to notice yourself changing. You may start to notice feeling stronger, more flexible, more energetic and less stressed. Your concentration may be more sustained. Get ready to start feeling like a more balanced and healthy version of yourself!

 

Your first 4 lessons will revolve mainly around “standing poses”. These poses are chosen because of the corrective effect that they have on the body. They will strengthen areas that need strengthening and open areas that need opening. As a result, it is likely that your posture will start to noticeably improve. This change is something that you can feel but also something that others can see. Friends and family might start to observe how you sit without slouching, or appear taller when standing.

 

To build on these changes new poses are added to the end of each sessions. You start to learn “seated poses” to help improve mobility in your knees, ankles and hips. You will also explore poses that help to unlock stiffness in your shoulders and wrists. This gradual development will continue to grow as you grow in your practice. 

In the latter part of the course you are introduced to the energizing “backbend” poses. From there, the therapeutic effects of “inverted poses” are explored. Eventually, observing your breath in “restorative poses” will help you to discover deeper layers of releasing and relaxing. By the end of the beginners course you will have a strong grasp of all of the main categories of yoga poses.

This course is suitable for beginners or those who want to deepen their practice. A physically challenging, dynamic, compelling, fast-paced, and progressive format. Ideal for those under age 50 and unfamiliar with the depths of Iyengar Yoga or new practitioners. 

WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE?

This 6-week course consists of 6 sessions of  75-minute practice which will be held on Sunday 16:00 - 17:15.

All course dates will run at The Greens studio. The space is purposely built for yoga practice, and fully equipped with everything you need.

about the facilitator: HODIS KAVIAN

Iranian born Hodis fell in love with yoga at an early age, and has worked in the fitness industry since graduating university. Specializing in yoga since 2008, she is a certified Yoga teacher and been practicing Iyengar yoga since 2011. Hodis has received training from some of the world's leading senior Iyengar teachers in several workshops and been studying and practicing under the guidance of Gabriella Giubulario in Florence, as well as her mentor Lois. As a keen student of spiritual philosophy, Hodis has gained a deeper understanding of the practice of yoga beyond the physical benefits. Her passion for yoga is evident in her desire for students to experience the deeper connection between mind and body that yoga brings.
