ABOUT THE EVENTS

This Autumn as an extension of our Summer Because it Matters Series and considering the current global realities for online and homeschooling we continue our Parent Enrichment collaboration between Yoga House and Enriching Environments. For each event in this special series we will enjoy a documentary, each covering a different aspect of childhood. A series of truly uplifting and unmissable films for parents and educators that will leave you in wonder and awe at children's immense ability to learn and how important it is for them to be in the right environment.

We will look at the types of experiences that most benefit our children’s natural development; from the way that we prepare homes, to interacting with nature, to offering limitless free play.  We also challenge traditional educational models that focus on results and offer alternative solutions.

Each film will be followed by a discussion led by Charlotte Awdry, Founder of  Enriching Environments, Montessori Educator and Narrator. Visit her website www.enrichingenvironments.com - follow her on Instagram and Facebook @enrichingenvironments

The films shown will be as follows:

Childhood (Barndom) - (2017)

Our first film in the Autumn series focuses on the magic of play in early childhood.

This screening offers a close encounter with the importance of play and fantasy in childhood, and how playing is vital for the well-being of children. Childhood tells a crucial story about children’s needs, in a time when playing is increasingly marginalised.  This is an observational documentary that follows the children in Aurora Kindergarten aged 1 to 7 years throughout a year. A quiet and life-affirming film, it is deeply provocative because it draws up a whole different perspective on what children truly need than what is the current norm.

Waterschool (2018)

Our second film in our Autumn series focuses on our planet, and the role our children have in preserving it. ‘Waterschool’ follows the experiences of several young female students who live along six of the world’s major rivers – the Amazon, Mississippi, Danube, Nile, Ganges and Yangtze – and celebrates the efforts of Swarovski Waterschool. The making-of this documentary led this passionate filmmaking crew across five continents to capture the moving stories of these young girls, giving voice to the generation for whom the preservation of clean water is most pressing. Vivid, lyrical, and often poignant, the film is a reminder of the power of education – with the support of the business community – to transform lives and tackle the world’s pressing environmental issues.

Inside Montessori (2019)

The third film in our Autumn series looks to an educational method created one hundred years ago, that can best serve us in the future. A fascinating documentary that reframes the educational method conversation toward creating learning environments that allow children to achieve their full potential. The proven, developmental and child-centered practices of Montessori education can support ALL children, regardless of background and learning style, in having the opportunities to flourish in learning and in life.
